Senior Constable Jos Day

This week we had a day in honour of Senior Constable Jos who is currently very unwell with bowel cancer.  Constable Jos is an awesome person who has spent many hours in our school working alongside our teachers, especially focusing on road safety.  He has taught us how to keep safe in many aspects of our lives including at home, when walking, when cycling and also when travelling in cars.

On this day our school raised $900 to donate to bowel cancer research by completing a coin trail.  Our class also created two collaborative art pieces as a gift for our friend Constable Jos.  We chose to do bikes as we have all learnt cycle safety from him.  Our Principal Mrs O is going to deliver our finished artworks to Constable Jos to show him we are all thinking of him.

Cupcake Decorating Competition

Last Friday evening we had our Grey Main Family Fiesta fundraiser.  This is a fantastic night out for our town with food stalls, games, displays and activities for all.

As part of the fundraising the Year 7 and 8 students have a cupcake decorating competition.  We bake and decorate our cupcakes at home and then bring them in for judging.  At the fiesta the cupcakes are then auctioned off using a silent auction process to raise money for our school.

Here are some of our amazing creations!

Identity Art

Our first art project for 2019 was to design our own avatar that looked like us.  We then put a transparent grid over our avatar design and used this to enlarge our avatar onto A2 paper.  Finally we painted our avatars and added detail with sharpie.

Not everyone has finished yet but we are quite impressed with our results.  We will be presenting our art in our upcoming school assembly and then will post photos of our own artwork on our individual blogs.  Here is some pictures of us in action.

Census at School

Today our class participated in the Census at School. As part of this we had to complete a series of measurements and tasks. We then had to complete an online census form.

We found some of the questions particularly interesting and they generated a lot of discussion especially around the amount of screen time daily and social media usage.

We are looking forward to analysing our class results in the coming weeks and also making comparisons with our peers around New Zealand.
